Welcome to CIE 2025 in Vienna

We are excited to invite you to Vienna, renowned for its cultural richness and recognized as one of world’s foremost hubs of musical excellence, to join us in the CIE’s Midterm Meeting 2025!

The CIE Midterm Meeting features the Scientific Conference CIE 2025, to be held from July 7-9, 2025. This three-day conference brings together the CIE community and its stakeholders to advance the science of light and lighting, as well as the technical and organizational work of the CIE. The scientific conference will be preceded by the CIE General Assembly and other administrative meetings from July 4-6, 2025, and followed by the CIE Division and Technical Committee (TC) meetings on July 10th and 11th, 2025. At the upcoming conference, all six scientific Divisions will discuss crucial topics, including the impacts of the digital age and artificial intelligence on lighting, controls, and measurement. Discussions will also explore the application of cone fundamentals in understanding light perception, alongside addressing the health impacts of temporally modulated light and glare, evaluation of virtual and augmented reality displays, and efforts to minimize obtrusive light and sky glow, reflecting CIE's global commitment to advancing light and lighting technologies.

Originally established in 1900 as the International Commission of Photometry (CIP) and evolving into the International Commission on Illumination (CIE from its French title, the Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage) in 1913, the CIE is dedicated to global cooperation and the exchange of information on all matters related to the science and art of light and lighting, color and vision, light and radiation measurement, outdoor and indoor lighting design, photobiology, and image technology. The CIE is an independent scientific and international standards-developing organization that unites the lighting communities of its member countries to serve the world. CIE documents establish international consensus within its scope. In collaboration with the International Commission for Weights and Measures (CIPM), the CIE maintains the international system of light measurement (photometry).

CIE conferences unite the worldwide lighting community to explore cutting-edge research and scientific findings on light and lighting, and optical radiation. Whether you are a scientist, lighting professional, engineer, student, or simply passionate about light, CIE 2025 promises to connect you with like-minded individuals who share your enthusiasm.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming you to Vienna in the summer of 2025!
